Abstract
The optimum dispersion maps (ODMs) for 43 Gbit/s DQPSK systems are analyzed using a semi-analytical simulation method. We show that the ODMs for DQPSK systems show reduced dependence on the duty-cycle of the transmitted signal and nonlinear crosstalk. It is also shown that DQPSK is quite resilient to the variation of the dispersion map. Pre-compensation of dispersion different from zero leads to reduced performance improvement in DQPSK systems. Close to zero residual dispersion per span should be avoided.
