Abstract :
As part of the Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI), a number of single-pitch mini helical flux-compression generators have been designed, constructed and tested by Texas Tech University and the University of Missouri-Rolla. A number of other institutions have also collaborated in the program, by providing theoretical predictions of the output performance of the generator, without access to the experimental data and any consequent parameter modification in the numerical code. Using their extensively documented and well-proven two-dimensional filamentary approach, the Pulsed-Power Group at Loughborough University, UK, has completed a detailed consideration of the generator characteristics. This paper details a number of the most important aspects of the numerical simulation and the most significant findings that were obtained, and draws some significant conclusions.
