Abstract :
We review a number of dynamic traffic grooming algorithms proposed by Zhang et al. for elastic optical networks and extend their study. We first extend their work to analyse the impact of using different modulation formats (either used individually or jointly), as well as to evaluate the performance of the methods when facing physical layer impairment constraints. Moreover, we also apply a techno-economic model in order to compare the algorithms not only from a performance perspective, but also from the point of view of the operational costs associated with the different methods.
