  • Abstract
Much attention has been recently drawn towards switched reluctance machine (SRM) based vehicle propulsion systems. This is especially due to the excellent extended speed features of SRMs for electric/hybrid electric vehicle propulsion applications. However, the inherently large torque ripple and highly nonlinear characteristics of SRMs present significant challenges from the controller design standpoint. Appropriate design of a control smart scheme is critical, in order to enhance overall performance. This paper proposes a novel field programmable gate array (FPGA) based off-line control strategy, to minimize the overall torque ripple and deal with the nonlinearities. However, due to its ¿off-line¿ feature, the precise inductance model of SRM ought to be determined. For this purpose, this work also involves usage of a suitable current saturation method. Suitable simulation test results are discussed and in-depth analyses, inferences, as well as future research directions are presented.
