  • Abstract
The feasibility and the multiple applications of fiber optic based sensors have been proved in the past. These applications relay on their low weight, high resistance to corrosion and fatigue, immunity to electromagnetic interference, the compatibility with a wide range of materials as well as the low probability to cause fire or explosion. Along with this upcoming fiber optic technology the present work describes the development of a passive light intensity fiber optic sensor based on luminescent dye doped plastic. The sensor features high linearity, low directivity and very low thermal drift, although it lacks high sensitivity. Further optimisation of some design parameters will help to improve it
