Abstract :
Heavy commercial vehicles exhibits lower directional stability and controllability limits than the other road vehicles. In this works, the roll response characteristics of partially-filled tank vehicles are investigated taking into account the liquid sloshing. To characterize the additional forces and moments resulting from liquid slosh within a partially filled tank, an equivalent pendulum model is proposed. The mechanical characteristics of sloshing liquid with a free liquid surface are simulated. Then the forces and moments are associated with a dynamic model of a tractor-semitrailer vehicle. Finally, the effects of liquid sloshing on the tank vehicles model stability are analyzed, the roll response varies with speed and steering angles is investigated by Matlab/simulink. The roll stability analysis will be helpful for further study of liquid tank vehicle rollover characteristics and the methods of rollover detection and prevention.
