Abstract
Recently, research interests have been paid on 2-pole 3-slot permanent magnet (PM) machines due to its simple rotor and stator combination for high speed application in automotive industry. However, it is widely recognized that due to its diametrically asymmetric stator structure, unbalanced magnetic force occurs on both no-load and load conditions. In this paper, the investigation has been focused on the behaviour of unbalanced magnetic force on no-load condition. The methods of reduction of no-load unbalanced magnetic force have been explored. Various design parameters have been considered and the investigation has been carried out by 2D finite element (FE) analyses.
