Abstract :
The Internet provides a fertile ground for research and development of intelligent software applications. An Internet-Based Expert System was designed to be a platform or tool for experts to organize the knowledge related to the agricultural pest species/category and their characteristics according to their features and to establish the application expert system. The system developed in PHP with AJAX is based upon a Server/Browser(S/B) architecture which employs a user interface that is accessible with standard web browsers. Dendriform hierarchical Structures are employed to organize the knowledge related to the pest species/categories and characteristics in the system, which can make it easier for the experts to manage, such as add, delete or modify, the information of pest insects and diseases and their characteristics in the knowledge-base. Experts can also connect the species/category information to the characteristics in the database as the reference rules for the reference engine in the system. The application expert system could be established on the platform system, and can provide services for the identification of the agricultural pest insects and diseases to common users, it is easy for an ordinary person to tell accurately what the pest is, regardless of their lack of the professional knowledge of the pests. And it can be constantly expanded without any limitation.
