Abstract :
This paper describes the design and optimization of a short-stroke cylindrical permanent magnet linear reluctance motor for use in reciprocating electro-mechanical systems. A parametric study was used to identify the motor dimensions most significant in affecting device performance, and an optimum device was thus identified. Simulated results are compared with the experimental performance of a prototype motor, to illustrate the accuracy of the modelling technique
