Abstract
Market-based techniques represent a general approach to resource allocation in decentralized environments. In dynamic situations, the ability to find effective allocations of resources without central information and control is a crucial element of adaptivity. The Michigan Adaptive Resource eXchange (MARX) Project has developed marker models for a variety of resource allocation problems-both canonical and application-specific. An overview of results from these efforts demonstrates the range of applicability of these methods, and their role in achieving survivable responses to resource shocks in distributed systems
