Abstract :
Two samples of direct fed circularly polarized (CP) microstrip antennas at 2.45 GHz printed on different substrates with high and low loss tangent are reported. A stub is used in the feed network to make the frequency with minimum return loss, fr (resonant frequency), equal to the frequency with minimum axial ratio, fcp (circular polarization frequency). The effect of losses on the return loss, resonant frequency and their bandwidth are examined. Experimental results of antennas showed the impedance bandwidth (2:1 VSWR) about 49 MHz and 37 MHz for FR4 and RT/Duroid substrates, respectively. Axial ratios of 0.5 dB for the low loss antenna and 2.5 dB for the high loss antenna are obtained.
