Abstract

The SIC project was started in 1991 by the Fondazione Clinica del Lavoro IRCCS (FCL), with the aim of realizing an information system to reach these main goals: information gathering, storage, management, and retrieval in cardiology departments in three FCL rehabilitation centers; full data coverage of the single patient, for clinical, management, and scientific purposes; elimination of repetitive clerical activities; improvement of data flow between the various entities present in the department; optimization of the services provided; integration with pre-existent databases; and support to clinical research. The system, realized using advanced tools and architectures, has been in use since its first installation in April 1992
