Abstract :
KARDIOLAN is an integrated cardiology information system developed at the 2000-bed university hospital of Vienna to assist medical personnel with patient administration, database management, report generation, medical decision making, and scientific data analysis. Primary laboratories include electrocardiography (ECG), 24-h ECG, ECG stress testing, echocardiography, cardiovascular nuclear medicine, and angiography. The physical implementation follows the distributed system design where specialized server nodes are connected in a heterogeneous network including Ethernet, token-ring and local-talk subnets. Integration with the hospital information system and access to a research net with supercomputer resources are also provided
