Abstract :
Summary form only given. Multipactor (MP) is known as the avalanche growth of the number of secondary electrons emitted from a solid surface in the presence of RF field under vacuum conditions. It may occur in various RF and microwave systems usually substantially impairing their performance. Therefore, theoretical and experimental studies of MP aimed at finding methods of its suppression are extremely important. In this work, results of numerical studies of MP in cylindrical dielectric-loaded accelerating structures are presented. They were obtained by using a quasi-3D self-consistent MP model recently developed at UMD1 and successfully tested against experimental data2 that had been obtained earlier at ANL and NRL3. Key mechanisms of MP onset, growth and its dynamics at saturation are shown and discussed in detail. Special attention is paid to space charge modeling and calculation of MP-induced losses. We also present our new results on MP suppression by using the external magnetic field.
