Abstract :
Multi-view video coding has received a considerable amount of interest in recent years. However, error resilience for multi-view video coding has not yet been investigated in great depth. This paper presents a novel error resilience method to mitigate the effects of packet loss during transmission. Bandwidth efficient redundant coding is used, where the redundant stream is generated only for selected macroblocks that fall within a Region of Interest (ROI). Otsu´s gray threshold selection method is employed for selecting ROIs. The proposed system is implemented using the Joint Scalable Video Model (JSVM) codec and its´ performance is analyzed in a simulated Internet protocol packet network environment. The results show that the proposed system provides considerable quality gain, in terms of both PSNR and SSIM metrics.
