  • Abstract
An improved protocol, called the dynamic reconfigurable pipeline ring protocol, is proposed. The main idea in the dynamic ring is that whenever a station finishes a transmission, it releases the transmission segment immediately for other message transmission. The dynamic ring not only shares the advantages of the simple pipeline ring, but also offers the following advantages over other pipeline rings: (1) only 1-bit delay at each station, (2) the fully distributed control, (3) lower hardware complexity, (4) no need to break the messages into smaller units for transmission, and (5) higher throughput
