Abstract
A small-scale prototype of a linear synchronous motor has been designed, built and tested. The study details the investigation of the shielding properties of a paramagnetic material that encases the secondaries of linear synchronous motors. Analysis has shown that a shield made of a paramagnetic material, such as aluminium or copper, reduces eddy currents in the secondary of the linear synchronous motor. These results have been obtained through finite element work and physical testing
