Abstract :
Studies run by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to establish the TETRA digital mobile trunked radio standard are presented. The format of the physical burst stucture is examined and properties of the air interface protocol described. Simulated performance of a digital communication system corresponding to the basic characteristics of TETRA on the mobile radio channel are given. Different channel coding schemes are studied to find the best compromise solution for the random access slot format. The joint selection is presented between the error control scheme for signalling channels, the dimensioning of signalling messages, and the call set-up procedure, in order to optimize the call set-up performance and the throughput efficiency
