Abstract :
Although forward error correction and burst interleaving is employed, the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) radio link performance can be seriously degraded by frequency selective fading and dispersion of the received signal. A potentially effective way of counteracting these effects introduced by the mobile radio channel is to implement some form of diversity scheme at the receiver. The authors consider several alternative diversity techniques and discusses their relative performance when implemented within an accurate GSM radio link simulation
