UMTS mobility management

The characteristics of first, second and third generation mobile communications systems are first described. Then the state of standardisation of the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) is outlined and the system concept is introduced. A mobility management platform (MMP) which will provide uniform access to mobility functions for every user or network entity independent of the actual location of the requested function in the networks is described.
