Abstract
The South African Power Systems Studies Institute (SAPSSI), a joint project between ESKOM and EPRI, was formally launched on the 3rd of November 1997, with the following strategic intent: “The enhancement of skills in power systems analysis, planning, control and operation, in the South and Southern African Electrical Supply Industry, to meet the challenges of the future, through formal training and human resource development, supported by appropriate technology transfer, applied research and consultancy,” This paper deals with the formation and operation of SAPSSI over the last two years, and its role in the emerging Southern African Power Market
