Abstract :
Eskom´s electrification program has identified single phase systems as being the cost effective answer to providing electricity to the country´s rural population. The disadvantage of this system is its inability to support large motor loads (>7.5 kW). This paper presents the results of Eskom´s research into the operation of large motors off single phase supplies
