Abstract :
A method of characterizing AE (acoustic emission) transducers using Davies´ bar technique is discussed. The method described uses a metal bar (Davies´ bar) and a projectile for the generation of input elastic waves to AE transducers. The frequency range covered by this method is up to a few hundred kHz. The characterization is done by processing the signals from strain gages glued on the side of the bar and the AE transducer using the fast Fourier transform technique. This method enables the characterization of AE transducers in the frequency range where the conventional method has not been effective.<>
