Abstract :
The selection of specific functional groups for modification of spherical inorganic nanoparticles and intercalated and exfoliated natural and synthetic clay and mica particles, has been found to play a significant role in the electrical and physical properties of nanocomposites made from such particles. A description of the chemistry and application methods for functionalization will be given and briefly related to consequent electrical and physical properties and potential mechanisms. The role of functionalization in self-assembly of nanodielectrics is addressed.
