Abstract
The paper presents an overall application framework for a mobile-based Internet access environment. The application framework aims to simplify the overall architecture, enrich the user access experience, provide a personalization solution, while, at the same time, it preserves user privacy. It also provides support for different protocols and devices and allows for the easy introduction of high-level applications such as mobile commerce. A brief introduction to wireless Internet access networks is first given and the four layers of this environment are introduced. The proposed model is then presented and discussed. This framework introduces several elements, including an identity management engine and a service rendering gateway. A sample case of personalized picture management is discussed and call flow diagrams are presented.
