Abstract :
The concept of a next generation scientific cable network surrounding the Japanese Islands is presented. The proposed cable network has the following outstanding features: (1) continuous monitoring and power feeding, (2) covering interdisciplinary fields, (3) mesh-like cable configuration surrounding the Japanese Islands, (4) 20-50 km observatory intervals, (5) plural sensors connected in each observatory, (6) exchangeability of sensors for maintenance and replacement, (7) robustness against faults, (8) high cost performance. This paper mainly discusses the concept of the cable network and the power feeding system.
