Abstract :
The author shows that making an electrical system easier to apply will make a safer system. This premise is based upon the fact that if a set of rules is easily applied, then people will use it. Intrinsic safety offers the highest level of safety of all the explosion-protection techniques. It also offers a high level of personal safety since it uses low voltage, typically less than 30 volts, low current, usually less then 250 mA and low powers, of the order of 0.5 watts. Since this technique uses such low power levels and components that are substantially derated, then obviously, the equipment must be highly reliable
