Abstract
This paper proposes a new method to detect power swing as well as different types of faults during power swing. The power swing caused by various disturbances will affect the behavior of distance relay and leads to unnecessary operation of distance relay. However the relay should operate whenever a fault occurs. The Distance relay is more reliable if it discriminates the conditions of power swing and power system faults during power swing. In this paper such type of relay is implemented and it is tested under different faults at normal condition along with the faults during power swing. The results are carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
