Abstract :
The authors describe a conventional frequency multiplication chain that has been set up to compare the 88-THz IR frequency of the methane-stabilized He-Ne laser to the primary frequency standard. Phase locks and coherent measurement techniques reduce all errors contributed by the chain to a negligible level. Use of a hydrogen maser as the reference allows very precise measurements in a short time
