Abstract :
In this paper, we make an analysis by computer simulation for the purpose of an improvement of capacity in W-CDMA with cell size adaptation. A situation in which there is some deviation in the user distribution in the center cell, and the relation between cell size and capacity is evaluated. Although the distribution of users is varied only in the center cell, capacity including surrounding cells is so evaluated. By adapting cell-size, the result shows that capacity can be improved about 1.26 times users especially in a center-focused distribution. Also in the edge-focused distribution, capacity, about 1.11 times users, is improved. In addition, it is connected with the increase in the capacity by adapting the cell-size even in the other user distribution. The capacity is increased by the effect of soft handoff. Capacity increases as the threshold of soft handover becomes large. Capacity decreases over 6dB, because interference increases. It is shown that the reverse link capacity is converged when the threshold is about 6dB.
