  • Abstract
    A new low-pass filter (LPF) with a wide stopband has been presented in this study. The proposed filter is based on a defected ground structure (DGS), including a modified-meandered slot, a spurred C-like slot, and a microstrip transmission line with a 50 Ω. Two rectangular-headed slots are etched at terminals of the meandered slot, thus giving increase of the inductance and then the purposed frequency reduction. To improve rejection capability, the width of the meandered-slot resonator is also widened. An arm aperture is embedded to create new resonant path; in addition, a C-like slot with a spur slit is embedded inside the meandered slot so that the filter not only creates two transmission zeros in the stopband, but also exhibits a wide upper stopband. The filter possesses a measured minimum insertion loss of 0.7 dB over the passband and a wide stopband with rejection better than -20 dB from 2.9 to 12.0 GHz.
