Abstract :
A two-dimensional negative index material is proposed. It has volumetric structure composed of dielectric cylinders with a metal pattern arranged in the form of a hexagonal lattice. Simulation results show that the material has small anisotropy. By using the second LH mode a plane wave goes into the material with low reflection through a transformer. The material is fabricated for an experiment of a planar lens with negative refractive index. The measured field of the wave going out of the material is refocused. The refocused field profile is shown to be thinner than the diffraction-limited field profile.
