Abstract
The author give an overview of AC and DC drive theory, operation, and proper applications. He covers three areas that are basic to understanding these devices: (1) fundamentals of variable-speed controls; (2) adjustable-speed drive applications; and (3) power system disturbances and solid-state drives. Factors that must be considered for the successful implementation of solid-state drives to improve quality or reduce process cost are presented
