Abstract
In this paper, we propose an extended differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) method for sources with unknown parameters (of any theoretical class). The main features of the method are long-term prediction and backward adaptation by forward analysis with a dynamically adjustable prediction precision criterion. The predictors of the encoder and the decoder are synchronized by commands via a logical pipe. The proposed structures can be implemented thoroughly in hardware.
