Abstract :
The computer science and industry improves a lot these years, the storage architecture has been changed lots. Solid state drives have been introduced years, but the price of the flash memory doesn´t decrease, though its technology increase a lot. When talks to magnetic hard drives, the density and capacity are always the hot research areas since there have more difficulties on improving disk performance. A novel recording technology called shingled recording was presented to improve the magnetic density, however, the random write problem has been plaguing its application. This paper will introduce an efficient translation scheme for shingled recording hard drives to shield random write flaw. We divide the shingled disk space into many partitions, base on the regions, and adapt a special mapping method. Our simulator results have shown that this translation scheme improves performance about 30%~40% of random write comparing with Hitachi log system.
