Abstract
A general purpose Doppler weather radar is described. It offers a number of advantages for both forecasting and weather science applications. The system, initially developed for wind shear detection, offers high stability, high sensitivity, and many processing features and options. It can serve to enhance forecasting capabilities and provides a platform for extending weather radar research techniques. The C-band, 0.5 degrees beamwidth design, offers a platform for fine-grain investigation of weather phenomena, including weak, clear-air events.
