Abstract
Stepper motor is widely used for precise position and speed control. In this paper speed control of stepper motor is used for collimator jaw positioning based on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) implementation. Collimator consists of Symmetric and Asymmetric movement and can be used in dynamic mode also. In dynamic mode there is variation in the speed of jaw motion during the beam is ON. To provide speed variation stepper motor attached to jaws is controlled using FPGA. The proposed control mechanism uses speed variation technique to rotate motor through desired angle, speed and direction.
