Abstract :
This paper introduces the new remote maintenance system (RMS) utilized for the distributed control system (DCS). The RMS was developed to support emergency maintenance by remote operation when a breakdown occurs and over the years has evolved to handle both preventive and predictive maintenance as well. The RMS uses a communication infrastructure utilizing public lines via analog modem. Due to the wide utilization of the broadband in recent years, the new RMS utilizes a highly secure communication infrastructure. New functions have also been realized such as the synchronization method for the virtual directory and authentication of used security utilizing this new remote maintenance system. Moreover, future possibilities of the new remote maintenance are also described
