Abstract :
In this work, a new approach for power transformer differential protection is presented. The proposed algorithm is based on the analysis of the differential currents on the 3D current trajectory pattern. In order to discriminate the different patterns an algorithm based on the analysis of the mass center is used. Different patterns are obtained according the transformer working conditions. These different patterns allows for distinguishing between internal faults and inrush currents. In this way, the diagnosis of the power transformer working condition is achieved using an algorithm based on the analysis of the 3D current mass center. This differential protection algorithm is also characterized by the low computation effort. Several test results are presented in order to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
