Abstract
In this paper the challenging situation in worldwide carbon emission and resulting global warming are introduced. Regional political rules for lowering the carbon emission are highlighted and the possible technical measures discussed. We discuss the concrete saving potential of electronics used in household applications and present the related ENIAC funded project SmartPM. We conclude by highlighting the saving potential of electrical equipment in automotive applications.
