Abstract :
The authors discuss the system concept of a fiber-in-the-loop (FITL) system, factors involved in network planning, and give a specific example of operations in the city of Brandenburg. Depending on the complexity of the respective optical line terminal (OLT) area, more or less optimization steps are necessary to find the most cost effective realization. This solution is a compromise between three major aspects; i.e., short cable length, low number of active parts, and high flexibility to install new services
