Abstract :
The authors examine the effect of the system load level and of selected dependent outages on the reliability performance of a composite generation and transmission system using security constrained adequacy assessment. The dependent outages included in the analysis are common mode and station originated events. The studies are extended to examine the effect on the system performance of selected switching station configurations. The station topologies considered are the ring bus, one and a half breaker, and single bus configurations. The study results provide power engineers with useful and important information on the impact on the system well-being of system dependencies created by common mode failures and station configurations.
