Abstract
This paper presents the operation of a PWM voltage source rectifier with an input filter of 100 /spl mu/H. The converter is rated at 100 kVA (380 V) and the filter at 0.02 pu. This reduced filter simplifies the converter power topology, saving both cost and installation space. In fact, a toroid or single turn inductor suffices to produce the required inductance. The drawback to the filter reduction is an increased input current distortion (/spl sim/55% THD). Naturally, this poses a problem to the feedback and synchronous d-q axes control system of the converter. Its high dynamic performance was nevertheless retained by using synchronous space vector modulation. This technique synchronizes the space vector modulator with the current sampling process of the control system. Hence enabling the exact fundamental extraction out of the highly distorted currents. Experimental results from a TMS320C32 DSP based system operating with the parameters of a 100 kVA converter are presented for analysis and evaluation purposes.
