Abstract
The Spectral Multiplication Purity Index (SMPI), which has been proposed in as a quality factor for multipliers, is here introduced for the characterization of mixers. A comparison of the SMPI with the specification parameters typically used for characterizing mixers is done. It is shown that this quality factor can be used as a specification parameter for mixers independent of the single nonidealities and which reduces the number of specification parameters needed.
