Abstract :
This work presents extensive investigation on the dynamic performance of a fixed speed wind farm equipped with Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM). The STATCOM controller is tailored to regulate the terminal voltage at the wind farm to improve its Low Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT) capability. Consequently, the STATCOM compensates for the reactive power of the wind farm during the recovery from the fault leading to system stability improvement. Simulation results obtained from PSCAD/EMTDC package are discussed to illustrate the dynamic behavior of the proposed scheme.
