Abstract :
This paper considers a symbol synchronization scheme for the zero-intermediate frequency (IF) zero-crossing demodulator (ZIFZCD). Approximate expressions for the steady-state symbol timing error probability density function and timing error variance are obtained. Analytic and simulation results show acceptable bit error rate (BER) performance for this scheme. This paper shows that the steady-state bit error rate of the ZIFZCD employing the symbol synchronizer with overall loop gain K less than 0.1 is close to that of the ZIFZCD with perfect symbol synchronization under static and mobile fading environments
