Abstract
This paper describes a comparison of various Advanced EHF payload and terminal designs to support a combined traffic load of voice, video and data communications. A characterization of the designs is made with respect to the capacity needed to satisfy a given performance metric: call blocking. The paper considers both circuit-switched and on-board ATM-switched payloads and the use of demand assigned multiple access (DAMA) for resource efficiency. OPNET simulation models are based on an army network topology supporting voice, file transfer protocol (FTP) and video teleconference connections. The results of this paper indicate the benefits and drawbacks of each option and how the performance changes depending on the number of beams employed in the scenario
