Abstract :
A composite local-area network (LAN) consisting of CSMA/CD (carrier-sense multiple-access/collision detection) LANs connected via an N-port bridge is considered. The composite LAN performance is evaluated for bridge priority protocols, in which the bridge is persistent and does not back off, whereas the stations access the channel according to the controlled nonpersistent protocol. The bridge interconnected system is compared to a system in which the bridge is replaced by a repeater, and the performance advantages of the former system over the latter are quantified
