Abstract :
Wind turbine generators (WTG) have been deployed in many places in the past. It is expected that more and more wind farms will be developed in the near future to meet the Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) target. This paper summarizes the experience of the California ISO (CAISO) with the wind generation interconnection studies. The power flow modeling of utility scale wind farm is summarized first. The challenges of dynamic modeling of large wind farm in generation interconnection and transmission planning studies are discussed. The impact of wind intermittency on the dynamic model of WTG is investigated. The wind generation interconnection studies in real system have been used as examples in the discussion.
