Abstract :
Distributed resource adoption coupled with smart grid implementations is expected to significantly alter the nature of the distribution system. However, traditional distribution models and analysis techniques are not capable of capturing the relevant temporal and spatial characteristics associated these devices. As a result, new models and analyses are needed to permit distribution planners to access the potential benefits and impacts of these devices. In this paper, behavioral characteristics and modeling requirements of three emerging distributed technologies - solar photovoltaic (PV), plug-in electric vehicles (PEV), and energy storage devices - are discussed.
